Video is a great way to get across a message about yourself, your business or your products. And thanks to the combination of low-cost video cameras and computers, creating a video and uploading it to your Tradespace has never been easy.
You can easily give your videos a little more polish by following our simple tips, none of which rely on expensive equipment or expert video editing skills.
Lighting
Getting the lighting right is very important for producing good-quality video, and the position of the lights is actually more important than having expensive lights. The best option is to use a system called three-point lighting, which uses three sources of light placed at different angles to give the shot some depth using shadows.
As you can see from our video, not all of the sources need to be actual lights – we used a window as our “back” light – and your lights don’t have to be expensive. The lights you can see us using are cheap photographer’s lights, rather than professional-quality ones made for video.
One simple tip – don’t frame your subject in a window. This is a guaranteed way to leave your subject in the dark, as your camera tries to compensate for the bright light behind!
Keep it simple
Don’t try too much fancy camera work. If your camera moves around, and you pan and zoom a lot, the people watching your video will notice the movement of the camera more than the subject of the video. If you are panning – moving the camera from one side to the other – do so smoothly rather than making any sudden movement.
If you’re going for a close up shot of a person, it’s better to focus in on the lower half of the face and cut off the top of their head, rather than cutting off their chin. When viewing, people focus on the eyes and the mouth – so make sure these are always in shot.
Follow these simple rules, and you too can become a YouTube sensation, and have the best videos on Tradespace!
