If there’s anything that tops our wish list this year it’s a) for you to make your Tradespace brilliant with regular blog posts, video and other updates and b) to show your brilliance and walk away with £10,000.
Every year BT runs one of the best competitions ever, known as ‘Essence of the Entrepreneur’. Last year, the BT Tradespace team gate-crashed our way into the awards where we interviewed Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne and Rankin along with Tradespacers, Young Marmalade who won an award for Most original concept and A Suit that Fits.
This year, the challenge is on. We want to stand tall and walk proud into the awards ceremony knowing that this year too, we’ll be interviewing a Tradespace winner or two or three…!
BT Business’ Essence of the Entrepreneur 2009 is basically a search for inspirational British companies who are using technology to drive their business forward. Over the past three years, businesses from every walk of life – motoring, travel, music and retail – from across the UK have entered the competition. What we love about the Essence competition, is that whether you win the ultimate prize or not, it’s an opportunity to get your business into the spotlight and show the world how great you are at what you do.
…And what you do doesn’t matter; it’s how you do it with technology that matters!
Now, we happen to know that some of you are great advocates of online and social media. We also know that you’ve got what it takes to win this competition so, go on Tradespacers, make us proud!
This year’s judges include Peter Jones, Apprentice runner up, Claire Young, John Dunsmere from the British Chamber of Commerce and more… If you want to know more about the competition and how to enter, simply visit www.bt.com/entrepreneur.
Whatever you do this year, don’t let this one slip through your hands… the opportunity is here. It’s there for the taking….

All in a day’s work…
What a difference a day makes! Last week the BT Tradespace team were out and about for a period of 24 hours – that’s 24 hours spread over two evenings and two fantastic business events.
Wednesday January 29th saw us hobnobbing with the winners of the BT Business Essence of the Entrepreneur awards . The stars were out that night with some of the best new businesses in the nation winning awards for their innovation and drive to succeed. Special note to some of our favourites – the ladies of Notonthehighstreet.com, the boys of asuitthatfits.com (loving those suits boys) and the special star of the show – Michael Welch of www.blackcircles.com (who won the evening’s super prize of £20,000). An ex Kwik-fit employee, Michael started up his own business when he was told he’d have to wait for 30 to 40 years to become CEO of Kwik-fit. Truly inspirational.
You’ll be seeing more of the winners in our video interviews this week so watch this space.
Now, we’re not ones to brag, but when we walked away from the Essence awards with interviews with three top dogs – Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne and Rankin – not even the worst recession in hell could wipe the smile off our faces. Peter Jones was one of the judges there and his advice to small businesses was “to keep doing what you do well” because “being an entrepreneur is the best thing that could happen to anybody”.
To get all the gossip and see the interviews – watch out for our newsletter this month or check out BT Tradespace TV!
The next day, tired, worn-out, hungry but still smiling, we headed down to Brentwood in Essex to attend Arrow Light Haulage’s Tradespacer event- and wow! What a turn out for the books she got. Not only did Sarah take the BT Tradespace online community offline and work it, she also managed to raise over £200 for Ingatestone based charity, Hope and Aid Direct. “Charles Storer is an inspiration. He regularly packs up his 7.5 tonne lorry and drives donated goods and aid to children in the Balkans” says Sarah on her blog. It was a fun evening with our own Amy buying the drinks and safe to say – those who came left with more than an opportunity or two! So thanks Sarah for organising the event!
We’re hoping to see a lot more of our Tradespacer events – so again – don’t blink or you might miss it!
If you’ve got an inspirational story to tell or want to host a Tradespacer event, let us know by posting a comment and we’ll be in touch but in the mean time – why don’t you Twitter this?
